Magma is the molten or semi-molten natural substance that gives rise to all igneous rocks. It is of two types- Acidic magma, and Basic magma.
Following is the difference between Acidic magma and Basic magma
|ACIDIC MAGMA||BASIC MAGMA|
|Acidic magma has a higher concentration of silica and less iron.||Basic magma has a higher concentration of iron and less silica.|
|Lighter in colour.||Darker in colour|
|It is highly thick/viscous. Hence flows only for a shorter distance before solidifying.||Fluidic in nature. It flows quickly and covers a longer distance before solidifying.|
|Generally associated with violent eruptions and elevated landforms such as mountains.||Generally associated with fissure eruptions and forms volcanic plateau/plains.|
|E.g. Granite||E.g. Basalt.|
